Coaching the room. Chasing the world stage.

Trevor Tinker leads Central Coast RTC as head coach and trains in that same room as the club’s resident athlete. A four-time NCAA qualifier and two-time Pac-12 heavyweight champion at Cal Poly, Trevor now wrestles freestyle at 97 kg and trains full-time in San Luis Obispo in pursuit of U.S. World and Olympic teams. Every athlete on our mat learns from a coach who is still in the fight.

Throughout the year, Central Coast RTC opens its room to RTC-eligible high school athletes from across California and around the country for mini camps on the Cal Poly campus.

06RTC Eligibility

Who can train at an RTC.

Central Coast RTC follows USA Wrestling’s Regional Training Center criteria. Every athlete in an RTC practice or mini camp must be a current USA Wrestling athlete member, be in good standing with the RTC and its host site, and meet at least one of the standards below.

AJunior & age-group results

  • Top 8 at the UWW U20 National Championships
  • Top 8 at the USA Wrestling Junior National Championships
  • Top 8 at the USA Wrestling 16U National Championships
  • Top 8 at the UWW U17 National Championships
  • Top 4 at a USA Wrestling Junior Regional
  • Top 6 at a USA Wrestling State Junior or State 16U Freestyle/Greco-Roman Championships

BSenior & collegiate results

  • Won at least one match at the Senior USA Wrestling World or Olympic Team Trials
  • Top 8 at the USA Wrestling Senior Open Championships
  • Top 8 at the USA Wrestling U23 National Championships
  • Top 4 at a USA Wrestling Senior Regional
  • Top 4 at the New York Athletic Club International or the Dave Schultz Memorial International
  • Listed on a collegiate roster for the current academic year

CInternational & veterans

  • Competed at a Continental or World Championships/Games at any age level (the five-year window does not apply)
  • Veteran athletes who represented the U.S. at the Veterans World Championships within the last two years, or are scheduled to compete at the next one

Athletes and coaches who represent a country other than the U.S. may attend with approval of USA Wrestling and the RTC, and must be of similar competitive caliber.

Central Coast RTC is an official Regional Training Center of USA Wrestling, the national governing body for the sport of wrestling in the United States.
